A domain transfer moves the domain's registration from your current registrar to us; the domain stays yours. We do it as part of Move to Heberlis (€349 once, with a hosting plan), together with the site and your mailboxes. If only the domain needs to move, write to us first: we tell you what it involves before anything is charged.
What we need from you
- At your current registrar, switch off the transfer lock (often called "domain lock" or "registrar lock").
- Ask the same registrar for the transfer code, also called the auth code or EPP code.
- Check that the email address on the domain's contact details still works: some registries send a confirmation there.
- Send us the code through the Support tab of your account, never by plain email.
When a domain cannot move yet
ICANN's rules forbid moving a domain to another registrar within 60 days of its registration or of its last transfer. Such a domain moves when that period ends; your site and email can still move before it.
How long it takes
Once the code is accepted, the registry usually completes the transfer within 5 to 7 days. Your site and email keep working during it, because we rebuild the DNS before the switch. For .com and most other endings, a transfer also adds a year to the registration, billed at the domain's yearly price.
